I am more a dog person, but my ex wasn't and wanted cats. I feel for my two and wouldn't give them up. Though If I could get a dog I would.

I got to say as well no no no no no no no no no no no to any spiders

Jesus, i wasn't expecting a Tarantula... actually i find it pretty, but I don't know if I could have a pet spider/bug. They have to live inside a little cage, it must suck for them.
I've never had any pets living with me in my house, I don't see the point of having a pet, although a cat wouldn't be that bad

Glad you all like my tarantula  :D

Tarantulas are really easy to take care of actually, they only need to eat about twice a week. They're happy as long as they have their water, food, and shelter. They don't move around much so they don't require much space anyway, if their enclosure is too big they'll have trouble finding their food :P

Well, I've got arachnophobia, and I might kill anyone who thinks it's funny to throw a spider at me or something like that. Not willingly, but as an action of self-defense while being in a state of irrational panic. ;)

Although it has gotten better over the years, and this picture actually didn't bother me at all. There are actually some (really, really small) spiders I even consider to be kinda cute. And I would never want someone to kill a spider (bring it far away somewhere outside instead). After all, it's not the spider's fault that I've got that irrational fear. I just wouldn't want to touch your pet. Or sleep in the same room. ^^

That was my reaction. I actually squeaked and dropped my mouse.

Somehow I'm sure that must have looked really cute. ;D

I kinda regret clicking on this thread... lol

I do not get why people like tarantulas, If I ever came face to face with one i'd probably have a heart attack...

Stranger, you ever had one escape?

Hahah, I think they're cute in their own kind of way.
I used to think they were creepy as well, but after reading some stuff about them on the internet they started to fascinate me.
I happened to find out they were the ideal pet for me, low maintenace, comparable to hardy plants, really. You only need to provide them with fresh water every few days, feed them every week or so, dont require a lot of space and they leave no unpleasant odours at all. Not to mention it's always a fun topic to talk about when people ask about my hobbies.

Some species have awesome colouration (warning for arachnophobes, link contains spider pictures :P), and there and many enthousiasts who keep them as a hobby. A woman who works at my local petshop has over 50 tarantulas and also breeds them :>

About escaping, nah, I generally go for more slow-moving species.
Henry, my other tarantula, got a bit adventurous once while I was changing his waterdish and casually wandered out of his enclosure. I quickly scooped him up with my hand and guided him back while he was clumsily trying to balance himself on the palm of my hand. Nothing to worry about since he doesn't have a defensive temper, and even if he would bite, the damage would be comparable to a bee sting.
