I strongly recommend - The Witcher series by Sapkowski. Being polish i had the huge pleasure to read it in original version but the book has been awarded best fantasy book of some year.

My girlfriend read them all (in french) and she's not a big fantasy fan. The books are amazing ;)

Writer says he's written most of it, but that he's now trying to make it publishable. He's about 250 pages far that could be actually printed. So yeah, the most optimistic guess is this winter.

Nice, I ordered the same set right after season 3 ended, about halfway of book 1 now.
I'm usually not a reader, but for ASoIaF I'll gladly make an exception :P

George Martin is notorious for the amount of time he takes to write these books. I ran through all of them in about 3 months and then had to wait 4 years for a Dance with Dragons....

I guess it possible that with the tv series he may develop a sense of urgency but I doubt it.
He usually averages about 4 years per book so I wouldn't get too excited just yet.

Enjoy what's available -it may be the case that the TV series finishes before the books do...

He has actually given the two producers of Game Of Thrones spoilers of the main story lines for the next two books should he die while writing them. He said he plans to have them written by the time the series catches up, but I'm pretty doubtfull he'll be fast enought for the last one. :) At least we know that the next one will definitly be ready in a year and a half in that case :p But I expect it in like a year tops. He wrote the first 3 in a span of 5 years, but he started slowing down then. :)

Reading Lord of the Rings at the moment. I  read the first half like two years ago, and then gave up and read some... well, lighter books. Literally and figuratively.

I'm now at the bit when Frodo, Sam and Gollum are camping together.

Gonna ask the GoT books for my birthday. Everyone's making such a big fuss about them, so I need to find out what that's all about. Haven't watched the TV series.

Wow! Another person reading the Symphony of Ages! I used to think I was the only one who read them, since I've never met another person who had! ;) I'm a huge fan of Grunthor  :) Another good series I'd recommend is Naomi Novik's Temeraire (I'm such a fan of those, I actually have the dragon from the His Majesty's Dragon cover tattooed on my back)

I should read those again, but I'm (still) working on getting through Nick Perumov's Keeper of the Swords-series first...
