Just finished reading Superfreakonomics by Stephen D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner. I'm going to start reading Freakonomics (the prequel to Superfreakonomics) before I go to bed. A must read for every buddling economist, but also a very good read if you like fun facts/conversation-starters. Case and point: Superfreakonomics explains how you can make scientifically proven unintelligent monkeys turn to prostitution.

The Alloy of Law, by Brandon Sanderson

Follow-up novel to the Mistborn Trilogy, which is a really good fantasy read.

I will probably start on The Wheel of Time series after that, while I wait for The Winds of Winter (the 6th SOIAF book)

Tbh, Sanderson is one of my favorite writers! I should be rereading the WoT series myself before the final book is released in january next year but I think I'll just listen to the audiobooks instead.

I am currently reading "Dragons of Autumn Twilight" (Dragonlance Chronicles, Volume I) by Margaret Weis (Author), Tracy Hickman (Author) (http://www.amazon.com/Dragons-Autumn-Twilight-Dragonlance-Chronicles/dp/0786915749/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1350642561&sr=1-1&keywords=dragons+of+autumn+twilight)

You definitly should NOT skip. The books give so much more background info that makes stuff I didn't understand in the series suddenly way more comprehensible. :)

At the moment The Thin Red Line by James Jones, although I'm finding it a bit of a rip-off of Norman Mailer's The Naked And The Dead (both World War II novels).

Somewhere I forgot to say:

I'm reading a book! Judas Unchained - Peter F. Hamilton

If you're into sci-fi and like Peter F. Hamilton, try checking out his Reality Dysfunction trilogy, imo it's a bit better than the Judas Unchained and the rest. Otherwise, I'd recommend Alastair Reynolds's "Revelation Space" trilogy, really nice ideas and the universe in which it all unfolds. This trilogy is one of my favourite as far as sci-fi novels go, and there are also (at least?) 2 more books happening in the same universe, have read one so far, and it's really good too (Chasm City).

A Short History of Nearly Everything, by Bill Bryson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Short_History_of_Nearly_Everything)

It's an explication of general sciency stuff in layman's terms, with lots of funny facts in between. Entertaining read, and you actually learn a few things too!

Rework (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6732019-rework)
"Most business books give you the same old advice: Write a business plan, study the competition, seek investors, yadda yadda. If you're looking for a book like that, put this one back on the shelf."

Non-fiction. ;) More of a self help book for entrepreneurs I guess.

I'm reading the Guild Wars 2 manual, the one they offer on the website. And beside lots of professional books, I read everything Charles Stross writes and publishes on Kindle, both the Accelerando series and Laundry and Merchant Family.

I'm also a big fan of Roger Zelazny, the Amber chronicles of course and other books like Donnerjack, the short stories (This Mortal Mountain, The Man Who Loved The Faioli, etc).

And Terry Pratchett, not just the Discworld series but other stuff too.

And Iain M Banks, the Culture series are exceptionally good, if you like sci-fi.

Ah, and Dan Simmons, the Hyperion Cantos.

And if you know any other good sci-fi, lemme know. ;)

A Short History of Nearly Everything, by Bill Bryson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Short_History_of_Nearly_Everything)

I stopped reading this, because it didn't really bring anything new to the table (I blame my engineering degree for already knowing most of the stuff that's mentioned).

I started reading Consider Phlebas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consider_Phlebas) by Ian Banks, and I'm loving it. People claims the next books in the series are even better, so I'm looking forward to finishing it and moving on to the next.

Currently on a Simon R Green kick, "The Nightside" series is fun as is "The Secret History" series.

Also recommend Peter V Brett's "Demon Cycle", very good series which at times reminds me of  "The Runelords" (David Farland).

If you have a Kindle, the "Spinward Fringe" (Randolf Lalond) is worth a punt, cheap to purchase as well.

Finished both "Consider Phlebas" and "The Player of Games", and really enjoyed both (although, if I have to chose, "The Player of Games" was indeed a bit better). Moved on to "Use of Weapons" now, although I'm thinking about taking a small break from SF and reading something else first.

Im going to go ahead and guess no one is reading the same books as me. Currently working my way through Crime and punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Other than that i recommend 1984 by George Orwell, Catcher in the rye by J.D Salinger or perhaps The divine comedy by Dante Alighieri. The last one is a challenge to finish though ^^ But rewarding in it's own way. Makes you think. But like i said, doubt anyone reads the same books as me :P

But like i said, doubt anyone reads the same books as me :P

You mentioned 3 titles pretty much half the world has read already. I'm not even literature-minded, and I have both 1984, Catcher in the Rye and the Divina Commedia on my bookshelf. Never did get around to actually reading Dante's work yet, but I will, eventually :P Haven't gotten around to reading anything from Dostoyevsky just yet, but I'll most likely bump into one of his books in the future. He's on my infinitely long list of "stuff to read".

So next time, don't guess so fast ;)

Ah perhaps i should have been more clear, i am very well aware of the fact that those books are being read by a lot of people. What i meant though, i dont think that many people read them by choice and has classics as their favorites. Most people seem to go for popculture books, while i only read classics. But then again, i'm just guessing here :)

*Clears throat* As someone who finished their compulsory literature education (and not a second more) about 4 years ago, I'll say that I've read none of these books. We seemed much more focused on classic English literature, e.g. Pride and Prejudice.

Recently finished the great, but unfortunately, last volume of "The Wheel of Time" by R. Jordan followed by the very cool "Mistborn" trilogy by B. Sanderson, currently reading Game of Thrones series and I have two other books in parallel, Ovid's "Metamorphosis" (English translation, did translate most of it from Latin into Dutch when for my highschool graduation, but thats too long ago for me to read the original :) ) and also various works by Carl Jung, think currently one about his psychological theories on the interpretation of dreams.

Writer says he's written most of it, but that he's now trying to make it publishable. He's about 250 pages far that could be actually printed. So yeah, the most optimistic guess is this winter.

George Martin is notorious for the amount of time he takes to write these books. I ran through all of them in about 3 months and then had to wait 4 years for a Dance with Dragons....

I guess it possible that with the tv series he may develop a sense of urgency but I doubt it.
He usually averages about 4 years per book so I wouldn't get too excited just yet.

Enjoy what's available -it may be the case that the TV series finishes before the books do...

He has actually given the two producers of Game Of Thrones spoilers of the main story lines for the next two books should he die while writing them. He said he plans to have them written by the time the series catches up, but I'm pretty doubtfull he'll be fast enought for the last one. :) At least we know that the next one will definitly be ready in a year and a half in that case :p But I expect it in like a year tops. He wrote the first 3 in a span of 5 years, but he started slowing down then. :)

- The Vicomte de Bragelonne, by Alexandre Dumas. The third book of the d'Artagnan Romances.
- The Last Four Things, by Paul Hoffman. Appears to be fantasy-noir, picked up the trilogy while on vacation.
- House of Leaves, by Mark Danielewski. Weird. Just very, very weird.
- Meditations of Violence, by Rory Miller. Ties into the training, very down to earth.

I'm also planning on re-reading all of the Riftwar books by Raymond E. Feist, because I caught up at one point, read a bunch of books waiting for the next one and now that I have the final book I have forgotten most of the characters and goings-on. Any Feist or Hobb fans in here?

I don't know if this is a good place to post it, but I consider myself a great poet, yes yes yes! Today, in a moment of creativity bliss, I wrote THIS:

Little skritt, so very tiny
Dreams a lot of something shiny
Pretty buttons, broken sprockets
Something nice in someone's pockets

(after that some other ideas came to my mind):

Little skritt is very needy
But Finessa is so greedy!
No sparkly gold, no shiny sword
Not even a bit of a kit support!
Uh Finessa! Going naked everywhere
Showing nipples! Has no shame!

(aaaand here my ideas run off, maybe I'll finish it or maybe not :p)

I don't know if this is a good place to post it, but I consider myself a great poet, yes yes yes! Today, in a moment of creativity bliss, I wrote THIS:

Little skritt, so very tiny
Dreams a lot of something shiny
Pretty buttons, broken sprockets
Something nice in someone's pockets

(after that some other ideas came to my mind):

Little skritt is very needy
But Finessa is so greedy!
No sparkly gold, no shiny sword
Not even a bit of a kit support!
Uh Finessa! Going naked everywhere
Showing nipples! Has no shame!

(aaaand here my ideas run off, maybe I'll finish it or maybe not :p)

Whether it belongs here or not, I love it! :)
