A Dance With Dragons by George R. R. Martin. Basically just because I want to know what happens in the next seasons of HBO show Game Of Thrones. Good god cool shit is about to happen.

I'm still trying to finish A Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami.
-
Just finished reading Superfreakonomics by Stephen D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner. I'm going to start reading Freakonomics (the prequel to Superfreakonomics) before I go to bed. A must read for every buddling economist, but also a very good read if you like fun facts/conversation-starters. Case and point: Superfreakonomics explains how you can make scientifically proven unintelligent monkeys turn to prostitution.

The Alloy of Law, by Brandon Sanderson
Follow-up novel to the Mistborn Trilogy, which is a really good fantasy read.
I will probably start on The Wheel of Time series after that, while I wait for The Winds of Winter (the 6th SOIAF book)

Tbh, Sanderson is one of my favorite writers! I should be rereading the WoT series myself before the final book is released in january next year but I think I'll just listen to the audiobooks instead.
I am currently reading "Dragons of Autumn Twilight" (Dragonlance Chronicles, Volume I) by Margaret Weis (Author), Tracy Hickman (Author) (http://www.amazon.com/Dragons-Autumn-Twilight-Dragonlance-Chronicles/dp/0786915749/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1350642561&sr=1-1&keywords=dragons+of+autumn+twilight)

You definitly should NOT skip. The books give so much more background info that makes stuff I didn't understand in the series suddenly way more comprehensible. :)

Somehow I'm not surprised.

So I finished Allow of law, nice story, albeit a bit short. I really hope he's able to pick up his mistborn work again and start on his 2nd trilogy.

Skip 50 shades and read "The Siren" by Tiffany Reisz

Somewhere I forgot to say:
I'm reading a book! Judas Unchained - Peter F. Hamilton
-
At the moment The Thin Red Line by James Jones, although I'm finding it a bit of a rip-off of Norman Mailer's The Naked And The Dead (both World War II novels).

If you're into sci-fi and like Peter F. Hamilton, try checking out his Reality Dysfunction trilogy, imo it's a bit better than the Judas Unchained and the rest. Otherwise, I'd recommend Alastair Reynolds's "Revelation Space" trilogy, really nice ideas and the universe in which it all unfolds. This trilogy is one of my favourite as far as sci-fi novels go, and there are also (at least?) 2 more books happening in the same universe, have read one so far, and it's really good too (Chasm City).

Isn't that in the same universe? At least I have the next book, for the other trilogy waiting. ;)

Currently I'm reading Chainfire (book 9 in the Sword of Truth series) almost trough.

Currently reading a couple different book. The Twenlfth Plant by the great Zecharia Sitchin and A Game of Thrones series by George R. R. Martin.

A Short History of Nearly Everything, by Bill Bryson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Short_History_of_Nearly_Everything)
It's an explication of general sciency stuff in layman's terms, with lots of funny facts in between. Entertaining read, and you actually learn a few things too!
-
Rework (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6732019-rework)
"Most business books give you the same old advice: Write a business plan, study the competition, seek investors, yadda yadda. If you're looking for a book like that, put this one back on the shelf."
Non-fiction. ;) More of a self help book for entrepreneurs I guess.

As my first post on this forum, I'll give a recommendation to Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.
I'm currently reading the 2nd in the series, The Wise Man's Fear, and I can't recommend them enough.

I do have to second that! Almost done with the second book myself. The books are well written and most enjoyable!
-
I'm reading the Guild Wars 2 manual, the one they offer on the website. And beside lots of professional books, I read everything Charles Stross writes and publishes on Kindle, both the Accelerando series and Laundry and Merchant Family.
I'm also a big fan of Roger Zelazny, the Amber chronicles of course and other books like Donnerjack, the short stories (This Mortal Mountain, The Man Who Loved The Faioli, etc).
And Terry Pratchett, not just the Discworld series but other stuff too.
And Iain M Banks, the Culture series are exceptionally good, if you like sci-fi.
Ah, and Dan Simmons, the Hyperion Cantos.
And if you know any other good sci-fi, lemme know. ;)
-
Frank Herbert's Dune (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dune_%28novel%29)
Need to be in the right mood again to finish it though.

Wheel of time book 14
A memory of light - Brandon Sanderson / Robert Jordan

A Short History of Nearly Everything, by Bill Bryson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Short_History_of_Nearly_Everything)
I stopped reading this, because it didn't really bring anything new to the table (I blame my engineering degree for already knowing most of the stuff that's mentioned).
I started reading Consider Phlebas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consider_Phlebas) by Ian Banks, and I'm loving it. People claims the next books in the series are even better, so I'm looking forward to finishing it and moving on to the next.
-
Currently on a Simon R Green kick, "The Nightside" series is fun as is "The Secret History" series.
Also recommend Peter V Brett's "Demon Cycle", very good series which at times reminds me of "The Runelords" (David Farland).
If you have a Kindle, the "Spinward Fringe" (Randolf Lalond) is worth a punt, cheap to purchase as well.

Finished both "Consider Phlebas" and "The Player of Games", and really enjoyed both (although, if I have to chose, "The Player of Games" was indeed a bit better). Moved on to "Use of Weapons" now, although I'm thinking about taking a small break from SF and reading something else first.

The Godfather.

The Godfather.
By this Wei means, "Visit Scandinavia" ;)

The Godfather.

No, I'm actually reading it. :P
-
Im going to go ahead and guess no one is reading the same books as me. Currently working my way through Crime and punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Other than that i recommend 1984 by George Orwell, Catcher in the rye by J.D Salinger or perhaps The divine comedy by Dante Alighieri. The last one is a challenge to finish though ^^ But rewarding in it's own way. Makes you think. But like i said, doubt anyone reads the same books as me :P
-
Currently not reading physical books at all, wouldn't know when to do this :p
Maybe that spare hour when im on the train but I prefer to clear my head on such rare moments :)
-
But like i said, doubt anyone reads the same books as me :P
You mentioned 3 titles pretty much half the world has read already. I'm not even literature-minded, and I have both 1984, Catcher in the Rye and the Divina Commedia on my bookshelf. Never did get around to actually reading Dante's work yet, but I will, eventually :P Haven't gotten around to reading anything from Dostoyevsky just yet, but I'll most likely bump into one of his books in the future. He's on my infinitely long list of "stuff to read".
So next time, don't guess so fast ;)
-
3books that we were obliged to read in highschool (13yrs ago), dunno if it still applies to newer generations
-
Ah perhaps i should have been more clear, i am very well aware of the fact that those books are being read by a lot of people. What i meant though, i dont think that many people read them by choice and has classics as their favorites. Most people seem to go for popculture books, while i only read classics. But then again, i'm just guessing here :)
-
*Clears throat* As someone who finished their compulsory literature education (and not a second more) about 4 years ago, I'll say that I've read none of these books. We seemed much more focused on classic English literature, e.g. Pride and Prejudice.
-
What Maisie Knew by Henry James.
...I pick up a lot of books at flea markets.
I try to read classics too, by the way, but I mix it up with more "popular" stuff, depending on which ones sound interesting.
-
Currently reading the Percy Jackson series. At book nr. 3 The Titans Curse. really good books actually.
books i recommend are
The Phenomena books. at a total of 6. (norwegain author, translated to. Italian, Swedish, Danish and Finnish)
The Eragon triology. one of my favourites! awesome fantasy story
-
Recently finished the great, but unfortunately, last volume of "The Wheel of Time" by R. Jordan followed by the very cool "Mistborn" trilogy by B. Sanderson, currently reading Game of Thrones series and I have two other books in parallel, Ovid's "Metamorphosis" (English translation, did translate most of it from Latin into Dutch when for my highschool graduation, but thats too long ago for me to read the original :) ) and also various works by Carl Jung, think currently one about his psychological theories on the interpretation of dreams.
-
Also recommended: Night Watch, Day Watch, Twilight Watch and Last Watch all by Sergei Lukyanenko, also recommend the movies, but do watch the russian one with subtitles in your own language, better that way :) and many more which I won't put here because my finger is already getting tired ;)
-
I strongly recommend - The Witcher series by Sapkowski. Being polish i had the huge pleasure to read it in original version but the book has been awarded best fantasy book of some year.
My girlfriend read them all (in french) and she's not a big fantasy fan. The books are amazing ;)
-
Im on the last book of "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. Im trying to milk this thing for all its worth I dont want it to end. Anyone know when book 6 "The Winds of Winter" is going to hit the shelves?

Writer says he's written most of it, but that he's now trying to make it publishable. He's about 250 pages far that could be actually printed. So yeah, the most optimistic guess is this winter.
-
Looking forward to that book as well!
Also on an unrelated topic, brandon sanderson is about half way done with the first draft of the stormlight archive book 2 :D
-
Anyone interested in befriending each other on Goodreads? :) (I Love statistics so I have to be on sites like that)
-
ordered as well, so will soon be reading that

Nice, I ordered the same set right after season 3 ended, about halfway of book 1 now.
I'm usually not a reader, but for ASoIaF I'll gladly make an exception :P
-
George Martin is notorious for the amount of time he takes to write these books. I ran through all of them in about 3 months and then had to wait 4 years for a Dance with Dragons....
I guess it possible that with the tv series he may develop a sense of urgency but I doubt it.
He usually averages about 4 years per book so I wouldn't get too excited just yet.
Enjoy what's available -it may be the case that the TV series finishes before the books do...

He has actually given the two producers of Game Of Thrones spoilers of the main story lines for the next two books should he die while writing them. He said he plans to have them written by the time the series catches up, but I'm pretty doubtfull he'll be fast enought for the last one. :) At least we know that the next one will definitly be ready in a year and a half in that case :p But I expect it in like a year tops. He wrote the first 3 in a span of 5 years, but he started slowing down then. :)
-
Stuck in book 4 GoT now :p So now reading Symphony of Ages - Rhapsody: Child of Blood. <3
-
Reading Lord of the Rings at the moment. I read the first half like two years ago, and then gave up and read some... well, lighter books. Literally and figuratively.
I'm now at the bit when Frodo, Sam and Gollum are camping together.
Gonna ask the GoT books for my birthday. Everyone's making such a big fuss about them, so I need to find out what that's all about. Haven't watched the TV series.
-
Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. Also there are a bunch of school books I should start reading soon :P
-
Stuck in book 4 GoT now :p So now reading Symphony of Ages - Rhapsody: Child of Blood. <3
Wow! Another person reading the Symphony of Ages! I used to think I was the only one who read them, since I've never met another person who had! ;) I'm a huge fan of Grunthor :) Another good series I'd recommend is Naomi Novik's Temeraire (I'm such a fan of those, I actually have the dragon from the His Majesty's Dragon cover tattooed on my back)
I should read those again, but I'm (still) working on getting through Nick Perumov's Keeper of the Swords-series first...

Grunthor is awesome lol. I like Achmed to ^^
And the book covers from Luis Royo.. An artist I rly admire
If you like dragons: try Robin Hobb; dragon keeper serie <3

The snowman by Jo Nesbø
Almost done and certainly gonna read more from him. Good thriller
-
Literature for school......................... studying for exams...............
-
Disgrace, for school but really good.
-
I just signed up for Goodreads, and after starting to add all the books I've read I logged out again... I'll all add that another day...
Latest book I read was Warm Bodies (while watching the movie). Too funny! :D
-
Currently reading Words of Radiance (Stormlight archive book 2) by Brandon Sanderson
-
"Thrilling Cities", by Ian Fleming.
I am not a Fleming fan (though the few Bond books I read are much better than most Bond movies).
Thrilling Cities is .... interesting. The world was decidedly different 50 years ago.
-
1984
I'm a slow reader D.

Why yes, yes you are.
I'm reading Fools Die from Mario Puzo. He's that guy that wrote some book named The Godfather if you've ever heard of it.
-
Reading Lirael, part 2 of the Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix again xD (the books I talked about Kam :) )

American Psycho.
And Forest Gump, because American Psycho isn't really keeping my interest. Gonna finish it at some point though.
-
Currently reading:
- The Vicomte de Bragelonne, by Alexandre Dumas. The third book of the d'Artagnan Romances.
- The Last Four Things, by Paul Hoffman. Appears to be fantasy-noir, picked up the trilogy while on vacation.
- House of Leaves, by Mark Danielewski. Weird. Just very, very weird.
- Meditations of Violence, by Rory Miller. Ties into the training, very down to earth.
I'm also planning on re-reading all of the Riftwar books by Raymond E. Feist, because I caught up at one point, read a bunch of books waiting for the next one and now that I have the final book I have forgotten most of the characters and goings-on. Any Feist or Hobb fans in here?
-
Currently reading:
Ghosts of Ascalon because it had muchos lore of GW in it wich i like.
And i just bought the maze runnes books because the movie was amazing
-
I've been kind of a slacker on the reading front, but i still manage to read a few chapters here and there.
The book i'm currently trying to read is The Godfather by Mario Puzo.
-
Just finished the first book of the Temeraire series (His Majesty's Dragon). New one should arrive tomorrow or the day after so I can continue reading :)
-
I don't know if this is a good place to post it, but I consider myself a great poet, yes yes yes! Today, in a moment of creativity bliss, I wrote THIS:
Little skritt, so very tiny
Dreams a lot of something shiny
Pretty buttons, broken sprockets
Something nice in someone's pockets
(after that some other ideas came to my mind):
Little skritt is very needy
But Finessa is so greedy!
No sparkly gold, no shiny sword
Not even a bit of a kit support!
Uh Finessa! Going naked everywhere
Showing nipples! Has no shame!
(aaaand here my ideas run off, maybe I'll finish it or maybe not :p)
